Son of Alphonse Duchesne and Hedwidge Ross of Rimouski, Quebec. He was fourth in a family of eleven children. He was the brother of Clovis (deceased), who served in the RCAF in England, Cyril, (deceased) who served in the Canadian Army in Canada, Ludovic, who served with the Régiment de la Chaudière in Central Europe, Marie-Berthe, Yolande, Jeanne-Ida, Marius, Carmen, Viateur and Régis. Pte Duchesne never married.
