Son of Alfred Blanchard and Annie Bouchard. Brother of Frederick Blanchard, 2nd Canadian Armoured Regiment – Lord Strathcona Horse (Royal Canadians), who served in Italy during the Second World War; he survived the conflict.

Enlisted in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with the 70th Field Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery, he was first transferred to the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada on 25 July 1941 in Winnipeg, then on 20 October 1941 to the Winnipeg Grenadiers. With Force C, he fought in Hong Kong, was made prisoner of war and taken to Japan. He had 953 days of service, including 828 overseas.

Location:

YOKOHAMA WAR CEMETERY is 9 kilometres west of the city on Yuenchi-Dori, Hodogaya Ward, which branches left off the old Tokkaido highway. The nearest railway station is Hodogaya, 5 kilometres to the north on the JNR line but the cemetery is easily reached by bus from Yokohama station.
