Pilot Officer Thompson was killed in an aircraft accident during his final flight training in Canada. Thus, he was returned to his parents for burial and not entered into a War Cemetery like his overseas comrades.

In March of 1944, Frank was at 34 Operational Training Unit in New Brunswick when he was killed in an air accident as were some many other young trainees.
