Baptized Joseph-Albani Bélanger, but he signed his name with a « y » Albany. Son of Félix Bélanger (deceased in 1909) and Apolline Robichaud (deceased in 1906). Married to Alice Jean in 1907, they lived in St-Jean-Port-Joli, L’Islet, Québec. Father of Joseph Rosaire Albani, Joseph Henri and Marie Rose Aimée Bélanger. He stated being born on 26 August 1886 when he enlisted.
From the 69th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion on 28 August 1916. He arrived in Boulogne, France, on 18 September. On the 20th, he went to the front line to capture Regina Trench in the Battle of Courcelette. He was killed in action on 4 October 1916.

Courcelette is a village about 8 kilometres north-east of Albert (next to the main road D929 Albert-Bapaume). The REGINA TRENCH CEMETERY lies about 1.5 kilometres north-west of the village. The REGINA TRENCH CEMETERY (signposted in the centre of Courcelette) is 1.5 kilometres down a single track lane (suitable for cars).
