Son of William George Hilliard Chisnell and Elizabeth Smith, from St-Vital, Manitoba. William was a flight lieutenant with the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in England in the Second World War.
His brother, Trooper William Norman Chisnell, service No. H-63984, died on August 15, 1944, from injuries sustained near Caen, Normandy, France, while serving with the 7th Reconnaissance Regiment of the Canadian Army.
Robert was an army cadet as a student, then signalman with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals – NPAM – service No. H-440328, from September 26, 1941, to July 1942 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He served in Canada and Britain. He died accidentally on a night training flight. He had 358 days of service, 64 of which were overseas.

Botley is 2 miles west of the city of Oxford in the civil parish of North Hinksey. Leave the Oxford Western bypass (A34) at the Botley interchange and take the exit signposted Oxford A420. At the traffic lights bear left then immediately right into North Hinksey Lane. The entrance to the cemetery is about 200 yards along on the right hand side.
