Baptized Joseph-Clément-Omer Deschênes. Son of Joseph Deschênes (deceased in 1907) and Paméla Murray, of St-Grégoire-de-Montmorency, Québec.

Enlisted in the 167th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he was first transferred to the 189th Battalion on September 13, 1916. He left Canada for England on September 23 and arrived in Liverpool on October 6. Transferred to the 22nd Battalion, he set foot in France on November 29. During the Battle of Vimy Ridge, he was wounded in action on April 29, 1917, and evacuated to England. After returning to his unit, he left for France again on November 28. He returned to the front line on February 14, 1918, and was killed in action on August 27, 1918, during the Battle of Chérisy, Pas-de-Calais.

ACHICOURT ROAD CEMETERY (ACHICOURT) Pas de Calais, France

Achicourt is a village and commune in the Department of the Pas-de-Calais, immediately South of Arras. The Achicourt Road Cemetery lies between the villages of Achicourt and Beaurains, a little East of the main road from Arras to Amiens, about two kilometers from Arras railway station. The cemetery covers an area of 700 square yards and is surrounded by a low brick wall. It is planted with Siberian crab trees and flowering shrubs.
