His full name ies Léo Roland Gaétan Besner.

Son of Georges Besner and Victoria Brunet, de Coteau du Lac, Québec. Husband of Gabrielle Biron.

On May 21, 1942, at 7:53 a.m., the Torondoc was sailing without escort when she was hit by a torpedo launched from U-69. She quickly sank 60 miles (97 km) northwest of Martinique, position 14°45'N/62°15'W. The captain and his 21 crew members, in lifeboats, were never seen again after they were abandoned by the Germans who had surfaced to interrogate them.
