Son of William Daniel and Alice Clara Ennis, of Toronto, Ontario.

On 17 March 1944, the Grena left Aden, Yemen, for Abadan, Iran. On the 21st, at 1.04 pm, she was torpedoed in the Persian Gulf by the Japanese submarine I-26 and sank 30 nautical miles (35 miles/56 km) north-east of the coast of Masira Island, Oman, position 20°48'N/59°28"E. The shipwrecked crew drifted until the 26th when they were rescued by the HMIS Investigator, who landed them in Karachi, Pakistan, on the 26th, where Daniel died in hospital.
