On 23 February 1945, at 13:55 hours, the Point Pleasant Park, which was about 300 miles (483 km) from the mouth of the Orange River in South Africa, was hit by a torpedo launched by U-510 directly into the crew's quarters, killing eight sailors. At 2:20 pm, the order to abandon ship was given. At 4:15 pm, the U-Boat surfaced and sank the wreck with the gun, position 29°42'S/09°58'E.
