He served with the Queen’s York Regiment (1st Armoured Regiment) at camp Fort York, in Arnprior, Ontario, from 8 April 1936 to 25 October 1939 with 3 years, 6 months and 17 days of service. With the Royal Canadian Air Force, he had 578 days of service, including 272 overseas.

The port of Flushing is on the south coast of the island of Walcheren in the Schelde Estuary. It is about 7 kilometres south of Middelburg and 58 kilometres west of Bergen-op-Zoom. The FLUSHING (VLISSINGEN) NORTHERN CEMETERY is about 1 kilometre north of the town centre.
