Burial/memorial information
On 4 November 1942, the Hobbema was part of convoy SC-107 heading for Belfast, Northern Ireland, when she was torpedoed by 132 500 miles (805 km) south-east of Cape Farewell (Greenland) and sunk in position 53°30'N/40°00'W. The captain, 24 crew members and three gunners lost their lives. The 16 survivors were picked up by the American tugs USS Uncas (YT-242) and USS Pessaccus (YT-192).
