Photo of Verne Arthur Joseph Poulin – Verne Arthur Joseph Poulin Tragic circumstances surrounded the death of F/S Verne Arthur Joseph Poulin. He was serving the R.C.A.F. as a flying instructor and on a routine flight on July 3, 1943, near Pendleton, Ont., where he was stationed, was involved in a fatal plane crash. Thus a fine flying career was suddenly ended for the 23-year-old pilot, a son was lost to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Poulin and a husband to his young wife, the former Miss Ruth Ireland, 197 Sydenham St. F/S Poulin came to Brantford in 1937 and lived here only two years but in that time he made a great many friends, attending St. Basil's Church and its C.Y.O. He studied at the Brantford Collegiate Institute and also found time to participate in the school activities. Upon his graduation he was employed at Zeller's Limited in various parts of the Province and for a time was at the local branch store. Enlisting in the R.C.A.F. in August, 1941, he graduated as a pilot the following year. His training was at Valcartier, Moncton, Victoriaville, Goderich, Camp Borden and Arnprior and at all these stations he found opportunities to cultivate his love of the outdoors and his hobby as an amateur photographer. source: Brantford Public Library online
