Wartime diary – No 2 Company 4th Bn CMGC -War Diary April 1918 - A Evers noted in para 6 - (from Library and Archives Canada). Pte. Adolphus 'Duff' Evers was a member of the No.2 Company 4th Battalion of the Canadian Machine Gun Corps. (Previously prior to unit reorganization in 1918 was part of the 12th Canadian Machine Gun Company) . This excerpt from the War Diary was written by the company commander Maj. Leslie F. Pearce, and notes the date and the manner of the death of Pte.'Duff' Evers. This is unique, as one can only surmise that Duff Evers must have stood out and was recognized by the officers and men of the unit, as he was recorded by name, when shortly after, the deaths of other privates or corporals were simply noted as 'other ranks'. It was not common for officer to name enlisted men by name unless they were in some way significant. He was buried shortly after this incident in a battlefield grave in a field just north of the French town of Willerval along the Rue du Lens at about GPS 50°21'46.8"N 2°50'58.0"E before being moved to Orchard Dump cemetery following the war.
