  • Photo of Frederick Higgins– Higgins, Frederick Alexander - Flight Sergeant. Born 23rd August, 1918, at Niagara Falls, Ont. Educated at Stamford Collegiate Institute. Entered the service of the Bank 2nd May, 1938. Served at Niagara Falls Centre, Fort Erie and Thorold, Ont. Enlisted 31st August, 1940, from Niagara Falls Centre in R.C.A.F. Sergeant Pilot 22nd April, 1941; Flight Sergeant 1st November, 1941. Trained at St. Thomas, London, and Dunnville, Ont. Overseas in April, 1941. Attached R.A.F. Served with 411 Squadron on coastal patrol, and later with 403 (Wolf) Squadron, flying Spitfire fighters. Took part in many operational flights across English Channel. Killed in action over own base at Martlesham Heath, Suffolk, 8th November, 1941. Buried in Ipawich Cemetery, Suffolk, 12th November, with full military honours. Flight Sergeant Higgins was a champion track runner, and gold medallist at the Niagara Falls musical festivals.  From a memorial booklet prepared by the Canadian Bank of Commerce.
