While on the field of battle we'll do it or we'll die while shot and shell are flying. There's a tear drop in her eye. There's a NFLD girl sighing for her first Nfld boy. xxxx Ted"

"Dear Maud,
We are having a nice time up the coast (Channel). We will be home about 2am if we get fine weather coming down the coast. We will be in St. John's about Tuesday evening. I see there is another big crowd enlisting for the second regiment. You have had nice weather since we left this time. I just got down to the wharf that evening when the steamer blew. We left half past 3. I must close good-bye, your loving boy xxxx Ted"

Just a few cards of the ship we are leaving by. We left Aldershot nine o'clock last night. I am going to try and get someone from the shore to post these for me, we are not allowed ashore. I did not get a letter from you before leaving. Believe me to be yours.

I am sending you some views of Hawick, its not much of it. Its not as large as St. John's and there are no street cars there. This is the Principal Street. I did not get a letter from you last week and I haven't got either one this week either. I hope you are well. Will is writing to you now.

Y RAVINE CEMETERY Somme, France
Using the D919 from Arras to Amiens you will drive through the villages of Bucquoy, Puisieux then Serre Les Puisieux (approximately 20 kilometres south of Arras). On leaving Serre Les Puisieux, 3 kilometres further along the D919, turn left following the signs for Auchonvillers. At the crossroads in the village centre following the signs for Newfoundland Park, Beaumont Hamel. The Y Ravine Cemetery is located within the Park.
