This is a photograph taken by McDermid Studio Ltd., Edmonton, Alberta. The note on the frame states "Philip Smith, Lingen's son, killed overseas WW2". Born May 16, 1921, killed in action May 25, 1944. Son of George Lingen Smith and Anne Smith of Vancouver, British Columbia. Phillip Smith was a Member of the crew of KB706 Lancaster which was part of a large formation comprising 442 bombers headed to Aachen to destroy railway yards on May 24/25 1944. KB706 was downed by the Luftwaffe with loss of the entire crew. Refer to www.419squadronbewarethemoose.com/home.html
