Son of Matthew and Agnes Currie, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Had previous service as a Gunner in the 2/91st Battery, RCA, CA (R). He enjoyed skating, hockey, rugby, track, golf and swimming. He listed himself as single, was an only child and his civilian occupation was stockkeeper. Cousin of William Matthew Livingstone of Calgary, Alberta, formerly served with Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve.

Guidel is a village in the Department of the Morbihan, 60 kilometres west-north-west of Vannes, the chief town of the Department, and 10 kilometres north-west of Lorient. It lies 2 kilometres off the Lorien-Quimperle Road. The GUIDEL COMMUNAL CEMETERY is on the north-eastern side of the village on the road to Gestel, opposite a market square.
