Pilot Officer Douglas Haig Nelson
This memorial is located in a field near Shipley, England. The field that had once been an airstrip during the Second World War and at the edge of which trees had been planted with the names of airmen who had died, presumably flying from this field. Beside the trees were wooden poles on which were brass plaques with the names of the airmen who died. One of these was Douglas Haig Nelson, who went missing in action over France on April 26, 1944. Today the field is being used as a practice ground by polo ponies.
