Additional information
On 1 February 1918, the SS Commonwealth left the port of Bini Saf, Algeria, for Middlesbrough, England. On the 19th, she was torpedoed by UC-71 5 miles (8 km) north-east of Flamborough Head, Yorkshire, England. The ship sank in three or four minutes with 14 crew members. Five survivors were recovered and landed at Filey on the 20th.
