Son of Chesley and Greta Steeves (1980 National Memorial (Silver) Cross Mother), of Elgin, New Brunswick.
His brother, John Steeves served with the Royal Canadian Air Force and died on July 7, 1941.

Russell Weldon Steeves was on born March 31, 1919 at Elgin, Albert Co., New Brunswick. He enlisted with the Carleton and York Regiment in January of 1942. He trained in Nova Scotia and England. He was wounded in action during the 'Invasion of Sicily, Italy' in August of 1943 and was invalided to England. He was then sent home on a Hospital Ship to Sussex, NB Military Hospital Jan.1945, then to Veterans Hospital in Saint John. He died on October 14,1945. <P>
Russell was the second son of Chesley & Greta Steeves of Elgin to pay the supreme sacrifice having lost John Chesley Steeves of the RCAF in July 1941.A third son 'Vincent Claymore Steeves' was on active duty with the Canadian Navy as an Able Seaman aboard HMCS Coppercliff. A fourth son 'Lee Glenwood Steeves' serving in the 'Home Defence' received his call to active duty at age 18 in November of 1945 just as the War ended. <p>
Mrs. Steeves was Canada's Silver Cross Mother in 1980.
