Burial/memorial information
After leaving convoys OL-32 and OE-21 on 31 August 1918, Mesaba was sailing unescorted when, on 1 September, she was torpedoed by UB-118 21 miles (34 km) east of Tuskar Rock, St. George's Channel, Ireland, position 52°17'N/05°38'W. Of her crew, 20 sailors lost their lives, including the captain.
