Appleby College Honour Roll – Osbert Calverley, an Appleby Student, served in the Royal Flying Corps. He was killed in a training accident in England, age 19.

Photo of Osbert Leveson Calverley – Born in England, Osbert Calverley entered Appleby in September 1912. He played on the First Rugby (Football) Team, and graduated to the Royal Military College in 1916. Having joined the Royal Flying Corps at the end of 1917, he was sent to Texas for part of his training, and was the first in his class to earn his wings. He was sent to England about May, 1918, to complete his training, and expected to soon go to France, but he met his death in an airplane accident. Photo from the Appleby College Archives

Plaque – Second Lieutenant Osbert Leveson Calverley was the son of Maj. E. L. Calverley and Mrs. Sybil Maitland Calverley. He was a member of the class of 1914 at the Royal Military College of Canada Cadet number 1214. He died on July 12, 1918. His name is listed on the memorial arch at the Royal Military College of Canada.
