  • Grave Marker– Marker at the grave of RSM Alma I. Harris, in St. Michael's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Highway12, Orillia, Ontario. Near the top of the stone is the badge of the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Near the bottom is a personal message: "IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY DADDY". Alma Inkerman Harris - whose given names clearly commemorate battles of the Crimean War - was born in Liverpool, England, in 1887. In 1912, he emigrated to Canada, where in the following year he married May Kelleher of Orillia, Ontario. A daughter was born to them in 1914. Harris returned to England to serve in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, British Army, in World War I. He was ultimately appointed Regimental Serjeant Major ("RSM") of the Regiment's 2/4th Battalion; he also won the Military Cross ("MC") for gallantry on the battlefield. After the war, he returned to his home in Canada where he died of illness. (Image taken by Gregory J. Barker of Barrie, Ontario, in 2017.)
