Son of Thomas Larivière and Marie Loisel, of Cap-d'Espoir. He had declared to be born in 1896 when he enlisted.

Enlisted in the 189th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he sailed for Great Britain on September 23, 1916, arriving in Liverpool, England, on October 6. Upon arrival, he was temporarily assigned to the 69th Reserve Battalion before being transferred to the 22nd Battalion on October 27. That same day, he crossed the English Channel and arrived in France. On November 3, he entered the trenches in the Bully-Grenay sector of Pas-de-Calais. From November 21 to 26, he was seconded to the 2nd Canadian Entrenchment Battalion. He returned to the 22nd Battalion on December 3.

Fatally wounded in the front line trenches at Angres, he was evacuated to the Casualty Clearing Station No. 6 at Bruay and died there of his wounds.

BARLIN COMMUNAL CEMETERY Pas de Calais, France

Barlin is a village about 11 kilometres south-west of Bethune on the D188, between the Bethune-Arras and Bethune-St. Pol roads, about 6.5 kilometres south-east of Bruay. The BARLIN COMMUNAL CEMETERY and EXTENSION lie to the north of the village on the D171 road to Houchin.
