Burial/memorial information
Baptized Jean-Philippe Aubut. Son of Guillaume Aubut and Marie Blais, of St-Godefroi, Gaspésie, Québec. He stated being born on 27 May 1890 when he enlisted. He was taken on strength of the 22nd Battalion when he arrived in France but he never joined that unit. He was instead transferred to the 87th Battalion a week later. He was officially listed as being accidentally killed, but in fact, he was shot by a sentry while he and three other soldiers tried to climb on board a train wagon.
