Excerpt from the Victoria Daily Times dated July 17, 1917, QUALICUM OFFICER KILLED
Lieut. H.C.V. Hall Makes Supreme Sacrifice;
Left Here with 30th; Was Serving In D.L.I.
According to information received in the city yesterday from Mrs Hall, her husband, Lieut H.C.V. Hall, has been killed in action while serving on the western front with the Durham Light Infantry. Enlisting as a private in the 30th Battalion under Col. Hall, the Lieutenant went overseas with that famous unit and transfrred to the Imperial forces on arrival in England. He reached France early in 1915 and served continuously for a year before he was wounded. He had been back in the firing line for some months when he was instantly killed during one of the recent engagements. For over three years before the outbreak of the war, Lieut. Hall had been a resident of Qualicum Beach, where he had considerable property interests. He was well-known in the neighborhood and was an active worker on behalf of the Anglican Church, holding office in a number of church organizations. He leaves, besides a widow, two daughters, Margaret, who is in England with her mother, and Idris, who is attending school at Duncan.
