Son of Samuel S. and Margaret J. Dickinson, of Port Hope, Ontario. Private Dickinson was a natural born mechanic and could make anything. He constructed a wireless telegraphic outfit at his home, making the greater part of it himself, from which messages could be plainly heard from Toronto. He was compelled to take the outfit down when war was declared.

Etaples is a town about 27 kilometres south of Boulogne. The Etaples Military Cemetery is to the north of the town, on the west side of the road to Boulogne.
