Baptized Joseph-Arthur-Jacob Lavoie, but he used Jacques for his first name.
Son of Ulric Lavoie and Maria Dubé, of Québec and Montréal. He stated being born in Québec in 1891 when he enlisted.
Enlisted in the 167th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he was assigned to the 189th Battalion on September 8, 1916. He sailed for Great Britain on the 23rd of that month and landed in Liverpool, England, on October 6. Upon his arrival, he was assigned to the 69th Battalion, which was quartered at Camp Dibgate in Shorncliffe. On January 4, 1917, he was incorporated into the 10th Reserve Battalion, and on April 7, 1918, into the 22nd Battalion. On the 8th, he crossed the English Channel and set foot in France. From April 10 to August 18, 1918, he was under the command of the Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp. On the 18th, he rejoined his new unit, the 22nd, at Chérisy, where he was killed in action on the 28th.
