Born 2 June 1895 in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Son of John and the late Annie Schofield. Brother of Pte. John Schofield, 733356, killed in action 5 July 1917, Lester, Hattie, Leona, Sadie, Dorothy and Bruce. He enlisted on 21 November 1914 at Halifax, Nova Scotia. He stated he was single and employed as a farmer.

Villers-Bretonneux is a village 16 kilometres east of Amiens on the straight main road to St Quentin. The Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery is about 2 kilometres north of the village on the east side of the road to Fouilloy.
