Proud is holding a memorial bouquet of flowers presented to her by the women and community of Tara in remembrance and sacrifice for the loss of her son Melville Douglas Proud a year earlier. On the right is sister-in-law Mrs. Winifred Proud married to Sergeant Harvey Robert Proud (652171) wounded (right leg amputation) at Gentiles Wood, Amiens France August 24th 1918.

Roll of Honour – Pte. Melville Douglas Proud's name was included on the Merchants Bank of Canada 1914 - 1918 Roll of Honour. He indicated on his military attestation that he was a bank clerk. This large Souvenir Edition magazine included the Rolls of Honour for various prominent Canadian businesses.
