He stated being born in 1893 in St-Henri when he enlisted, and he signed his last name Délaunais.
Brother of soldiers Napoléon Delaunais, serial number 120265, also of the 22nd Battalion, wounded in action at Courcelette and repatriated to Canada, and Georges Delaunais, serial number 4079041, of the 18th Reserve Battalion, Manitoba Regiment, who also fought in France and was demobilized on September 17, 1919.
Enlisted in the 22nd Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, he arrived in Plymouth, England, on May 29, 1915, and Boulogne, Pas-de-Calais, France, on the following September 15. Wounded in action on August 24, 1916, by shrapnel to the right leg. Loaned to the 2nd Canadian Entrenchment Battalion from October 5 to 8, 1916, then to the 5th Canadian Field Company of the Corps of Engineers from October 18, 1916 to January 20, 1917. Returning to the 22nd Battalion, he was slightly wounded in action on April 13, 1918. On August 10, 1918, he was seriously wounded during the Battle of Amiens, France, between Vrély and Méharicourt, and died of his wounds the same day.
