Additional information

Baptized Joseph Edmond Fournier. Son of Onésime Fournier and Delphine Verville of Gentilly (now Bécancour, Nicolet, Quebec). Husband of Marie Brunelle, of Gentilly. Father of Antonio, an unnamed child, Julie, and Bruno Fournier, all born in Gentilly.

Enlisted in the 41st Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he stated that he had served for three years in the 80th Battalion and was born in 1875. On October 18, 1915, he sailed for Great Britain and arrived in Plymouth, England, on the 28th. He served with the 23rd Reserve Battalion, the Combined Operations Center, and the 10th Reserve Battalion before being transferred to the 22nd Battalion on September 6, 1917. He was initially reported wounded in action, but on August 27, 1918, he was recognized as having been killed in action on August 10, 1918, during the Battle of Amiens, Picardy, between Vrély and Méharicourt, in the suburbs of Caix.

VRELY COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION Somme, France

Vrely is a village 32 kilometres East of Amiens, immediately South of Rosieres-en-Santerre. The Communal Cemetery Extension adjoins the rear of the Communal Cemetery which is West of the village on the road to Caix.
