  • Wartime diary– Excerpt from the 42nd Battalion's War Diary, for the period in which Private Alexander McDonald was killed.  All of the 42nd's fatal casualties during this period were apparently caused by enemy shell fire.

  • Memorial Plaque– The Memorial Plaque sent to Private Alexander McDonald's next-of-kin.  At some point, the bronze plaque has been mounted in a wooden shield, apparently to hang on a wall.   • Grave Marker– An early, temporary marker from Private Alexander McDonald's gravesite.  This grave marker is on display in the CFB Borden Military Museum at CFB Borden, Ontario.
