Son of James and Mary E. Dalton, of Georgetown, Prince Edward Island. Brother of Private John Dalton, who was killed in action on April 9, 1917 while serving with the Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regiment).

  • Photo of Martin Dalton– This is the only known picture of Martin Dalton. The original appears to be a photograph to which colour was added by hand painting. Martin Dalton joined the Canadian Army in December, 1914, very soon after the First World War broke out. He died in Halifax in April, 1915 either as a result of an infection from being bitten by a horse, or by being trampled by a horse, while trying to load a horse on board a ship bound for Europe. He was 23 or 24 years old. Martin had a brother (John) who was killed in action at Vimy Ridge, and another brother (Michael) who was wounded in action several times but who survived the war.
