Son of Edward Ziegler of Big River, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his mother. He had 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 4 half brothers and 1 half sister. He enlisted in Regina, Saskatchewan claiming he was single and employed as a logger. He stated he enjoyed hockey, baseball and skating. He served in Canada from 30 March 1951 until 19 March 1952, the Far East 14 March 1952 until 14 March 1953 and in Canada from 14 March 53 until he requested a voluntary release on 6 April 1954.

Commemorated on the Wall of Remembrance.

This features a Canadian soldier, facing toward Busan, Korea, where an identical monument watches over the graves of 378 Canadians in the United Nations Memorial Cemetery. Accompanying the volunteer are two Korean children, both holding symbols: the girl, a bouquet of maple leaves symbolizing Canada; and the boy, a bouquet of maple leaves and roses of Sharon, the national flower of Korea.

It was erected IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE CANADIAN WHO DIED IN SERVICE DURING THE KOREAN WAR 1950-1953 AND ON KOREAN PEACE KEEPING DUTIES, 1953-1957.  Private ZIEGLER died on May 13, 1955 and is buried in BIG RIVER CEMETERY,Saskatchewan.
