Son of Johannes and Caroline Johanson of Sweden. Husband of Selma Maria Johanson of Sweden. Father of Clara, Claus, Anna and Emma Johanson of Sweden.

On March 11, 1917, the Kwasind, a Canadian steamship, struck a mine laid by the German submarine UC-4 off Southwold, in the North Sea, and sank with twelve sailors, position 52°08'N/01 °45'E.
