Dignitaries from the City of London, 31 Canadian Brigade Group, Department of National Defense, The Royal Canadian Regiment Museum, Canada Company and the London Heritage Council all gathered, on November 9, 2018, to unveil a LAV III Monument, to honour the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) who served and sacrificed in Afghanistan, from 2001-2014.
Representing the Fallen CAF members was the family of London's very own Trooper Mark Wilson who was killed in October 2006 by an improvised explosive device while serving in Afghanistan.
Since its beginning, the City of London has always had a strong connection to the Canadian forces and defense industry. In 1923, Wolseley Barracks became headquarters for The Royal Canadian Regiment, and it is currently home to the 4th Battalion (4RCR), as well as, the Regional Cadet Organizations and the 1st Hussars. The City also has a unique connection with the creation of this symbolic monument. It is local companies who are responsible for building both the original LAV III used to protect our troops, as well as, all LAV III Monuments used to commemorate them.
The RCR Museum is the perfect location to preserve London’s stories about the conflict in Afghanistan. It is an accredited Canadian Forces Museum committed to providing a home for regimental history and fostering a deeper understanding of the Regimental experience during times of peacekeeping and war.

In recognition and memory of the efforts of approximately 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces personnel who served and the 162 Canadians who died in the cause of bringing peace and freedom to the people of Afghanistan.
En mémoire et en reconnaissance des efforts des quelque 40 000 membres des Forces armées canadiennes qui ont servi en Afghanistan et des 162 Canadiens qui sont morts pour la cause de la paix et de la liberté du peuple afghan.
