The Township of Cramahe Cenotaph was unveiled on August 11, 1920, and dedicated to the men from the area who fought and to those who died in the First World War. A granite stele is mounted on a two-step concrete base that tapers upward with carvings on the front and back. In front, four round concrete stones are engraved with one of four significant battle sites of the First World War: Courcellette, Mons, Ypres and Vimy Ridge.
The cenotaph was erected by the Township of Cramahe and the Castleton Woman’s Institute. The Institute organized plays on fair nights, under the direction of Miss E.G. Pomeroy, teas, and many other community events to raise funds for the memorial.
In the Spring of 2015, the wrought iron fence surrounding the cenotaph was completed.
