Lest we Forget

This mural was painted by Frank H. Johnson of Group of Seven fame,
circa 1919. It is a WW1 memorial to the many of
Winnipeg's St. Luke community who died in the Great War.
Featuring a soldier of the Winnipeg Grenadiers, in the foreground,
the mural is a constant reminder of the sacrifices made by so many to protect
the rights and freedom of people all over the globe. Let us never forget them.

Grenadiers' Memorial Mural was painted by Frank H. Johnson, one of Canada's Group of Seven artists. It was erected by the church, unveiled by Major General H.D.B. Ketchen CB, CMG, on June 8, 1924, and dedicated to The Winnipeg Grenadiers who died in the Great War. The mural depicts the risen Christ blessing two kneeling members of The Winnipeg Grenadiers. 

In the First World War, 281 men from St. Luke’s enlisted for active service, 43 of whom were killed in action. The mural was restored in 2004.

This memorial stained glass window "Light of the World" was erected by the Parish of St Luke and unveiled in the early 1920s. It was dedicated to Flight Sub Lieutenant John Elswood Chaffey Hough who was killed during the First World War. The window depicts David, the light of the world, and St. Alban. It was designed by A. and G.E. Moore, London, England.
