On May 14, 1991, sod for the Lewisville Humphrey War Memorial was officially turned by Second World War Veteran Ken Mellish using an army trenching tool rather than an ordinary shovel. The site of the memorial is where many of the Veterans being honoured attended the former Pleasant Street School. It was the chairman of the Lewisville-Humphrey War Memorial Committee, Laurie LeBlanc's idea that the inscription of Veterans names would be on the front of the memorial and information about the Pleasant Street School on the back.

Local businesses and residents donated money for the memorial and flag pole which honours 27 young men from the area that were killed during their service in the First and Second World Wars. The memorial was unveiled on October 20, 1991.

Caseley Park was designated as Riverview's "Peace Park" as part of Canada's 125th Birthday in 1992. Near the park entrance stand the 12 trees which comprise the Peace Grove. The park is named after former mayor of Riverview Ralph Caseley. It was officially dedicated on November 11, 1992, as part of the "Peace Parks Across Canada Project" in celebration of Canada's 125th anniversary. Pathways guide visitors past the Cenotaph commemorating the Canadian Merchant Navy.

"Peace Parks Across Canada" was conceived and organized by the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) in collaboration with "CANADA 125" and the National Capital Commission. As Canada celebrated its 125th Birthday, some 400 cities and towns across Canada dedicated a Park to Peace – with most parks dedicated at Noon local time, October 8th, as the National Peacekeeping Monument was being unveiled in Ottawa. The members of the winning design team included Cornelia H. Oberlander, landscape architect.

Supporters included the Federation of Canadian Mayors and Municipalities, Canada Parks and Recreation Association, the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, Heritage Canada, World Wildlife Fund Canada, Friends of the Earth, Canadian Society of Landscape Architects, and local Rotary Clubs all across Canada. Project sponsors included VIA Rail, Greyhound Lines Canada, Ltd., CP Hotels and Resorts, Ramada International Hotels and Resorts, Four Seasons Ltd., Meridien Hotels, Concept 3 Advertising and Programmed Communications, Ltd.

At noon on October 9th, 2007 – one day after the precise 15th Anniversary of the original dedications, and as Canada continues to be a beacon of peace, Tolerance, and Understanding in a world of increasing violence and distrust, and a nation that celebrates diversity, a nation-wide re-dedication was co-ordinated.

Each of the original Peace Parks incorporated a ‘Bosco Sacro’ (Peace Grove) of 12 trees as a symbolic link with one another, and with nature - and as a symbol of hope for the future. The 12 trees were also symbolic of Canada’s 10 Provinces and two Territories. As there are now three Territories, a 13th tree was planted as part of the "Re-dedication Ceremony."

The City of Dieppe was named in memory of the Canadian soldiers who died in combat during the Dieppe Raid of 1942.

The first Acadians arrived in the area along the Petitcodiac River, now known as Dieppe in 1730, and created the settlement of Sylvadreau. Following the British expulsion of Acadians from Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and the Petitcodiac River, the settlement became known as Upper River and eventually French Village. In 1910, the area became known as Leger's Corner which, in turn, became the Village of Dieppe in 1946. The name Dieppe was chosen to honour the memory of the 913 Canadian soldiers who died in combat on the beaches of Dieppe, France, in August 1942, during the Second World War.

On January 1, 1952, the Village of Dieppe became the Town of Dieppe, and on January 1, 2002, the municipality was designated as the City of Dieppe.

The first consideration for a memorial in Moncton was during a meeting on May 18, 1921, of the Lt Col. Boyd Anderson Chapter of the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire, which was named in honour of a Monctonian who served with distinction for four full years. Mrs. Irvine Malcolm, Mrs. Boyd Anderson and Mrs. Burden suggested that the monument be made of granite and that the names of "all the boys from Moncton who ‘sleep in Flanders fields’" should be inscribed on the base of the monument.

The Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire fundraisers included weekly dances, concerts, and a raffle of a wardrobe trunk and complete bridal outfit which was won by Mrs. Sam Fong on April 22, 1922. One of the highlights of the Flower Carnival fundraiser was the opportunity to purchase Jon Felding and Son memorial wreaths, made of magnolia leaves and poppies all tied with a purple ribbon, to place on the memorial after the unveiling. The Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire raised funds for one and a half years. Peter Thompson of the Thompson Monument Company in Toronto erected the monument at a cost of $7000.

An article appeared in the Daily Times and in the Transcript in February 1922 for the community to send Mrs. Boyd Anderson the names of the war dead to be inscribed on the monument by the Thompson Monument Company. The list of names were to be arranged on a plaque in alphabetical order at the base of the monument.

On November 11, 1922, the Soldiers’ Monument was unveiled by two prominent soldiers - Standley Steeves and Peter Legere. The group of returned soldiers would form the largest group of Veterans assembled in Moncton since the war. Disabled men and nursing sisters joined the parade by motorcar. Lt Col. Samuel Boyd Anderson was the Master of Ceremonies and Mayor J. Fred Edgett acted as chairman.

In 1954, Books of Remembrance were later added by the local Royal Canadian Legion to commemorate the losses of the Second World War and the Korean War. The Books of Remembrance were dedicated on June 12, 1955.

Emanuel Hahn's design represents the sorrows caused by war. The soldier atop the cenotaph looks down in sadness at the ground below him, as if he might find there, his fallen comrades, if not for the tragedy of war.

The bronze statue depicts a young, grieving Canadian soldier in a winter greatcoat. His right hand and left forearm rest on his helmet which is placed on top of his reversed rifle and his helmet hangs from his left forearm.

Emanuel Hahn moved to Toronto at the age of seven with his family of artists and musicians from Germany, in 1888. He studied commercial design and model-making at Toronto Technical School and Ontario College of Art and Industrial Design. At 25 years old Hahn began a nearly lifelong contract with Thomson Monument Company of Toronto. Two years later, he also started work as a studio assistant to sculptor Walter Seymour Allward. Part of his duties included assisting on Allward’s significant works such as the South African War Memorial in Toronto.

In 1912 Hahn began an association with the Thomson Monument Company of Toronto. It was there, along with several assistants, he made the many war memorials that are found across Canada: Fernie, British Columbia; Killarney and Russell, Manitoba; Alvinston, BoltonCornwall, Hanover, Lindsay Malvern, Milton, Petrolia and Port Dalhousie, Ontario; Gaspe, Quebec; Moncton, New Brunswick; Springhill and Westville Nova ScotiaSummerside, Prince Edward Island.

Hahn is probably most famous as the designer of the Bluenose on the back of the Canadian dime and the Caribou on the back of the Canadian quarter. He was a victim of anti-German sentiment in the years following the Great War, when his design for the Winnipeg Cenotaph was rejected in 1925.

In 1950, this memorial was erected in Pridham Park by British Empire Service League Branch No. 54 (later Royal Canadian Legion) and the citizens of Sunny Brae and area to honour the local war dead of the First and Second World Wars. The park was a triangle section of land facing the Elmwood Cemetery gates between McLaughlin Road and Elmwood Drive.

It was dedicated on October 15, 1950, and unveiled by James Kelly and Rev. Norman Estey. Special speaker was Rev. Clarence Nicholson D.D. of Pine Hill Divinity College and assisting the service were comrades: Grant Robinson, Eldon Thompson and Grant Wood.

The monument was later moved to Sunny Brae Park on Massey Avenue (date unknown).
