The Soldiers Memorial faces west, overlooking the village of Oakwood, and honours 34 First World War and 10 Second World War local residents who died in battle. A complete list of names for those who served and returned was never compiled except in the individual war rolls of the various churches throughout the area. The town name of Oakwood does not appear on this memorial, instead it is dedicated to the men of Mariposa, the township in which Oakwood is found.

The unveiling ceremony was held on December 22, 1920. Colonel C.E. Weeks and Township Reeve Charles Jenkins unveiled the memorial. Remembrance Services are held each year at the memorial with the first being held on November 11, 1921.

Since 1980, Second World War veteran and Mariposa resident Lloyd Graham, has maintained the grounds and organized the Remembrance Day ceremonies for the Township. On November 11, 2000 a new bronze plaque was added to the shaft due to the wearing and fading of the granite carved names. The additional name of William White was added to the Second World War names on the bronze plaque as it was not known at the time in 1945. Recognition of the Korean War Veterans was also added.

Henry Wake, who was wounded overseas, was the first returning soldier to Manvers Township in 1917. He was greeted by village officials and school children who lined the main street with flags and flowers. The citizens gathered in Bethany for a banquet in 1919 welcoming home the soldiers as well as honouring families of Veterans who served for their country. A bronze plaque was erected on the front wall of the Manvers Township Hall and was unveiled by Sir Sam Hughes, Minister of Munitions and Defence. 

Two First World War cannons graced the front entrance of the town hall. They were installed as part of the official dedication of the bronze plaque in 1919.   Unfortunately, years later, they were removed and sold.

The Midland Regiment Commemorative Highway, a 50 kilometre stretch of Highway 35 that runs from Lindsay to Norland, honours Canadian military men and women who served with the regiment during the Second World War. The highway was officially renamed on November 10, 2009.

The Buckhorn Cenotaph was constructed in 1945-46 in memory of those who gave their lives in the two World Wars and was erected in 1946 by the local Women's Institute.

It was first located on property in the hamlet occupied by the local Presbyterian Church at the corner of Main and John Street. The church was vacated in the 1970's and Mel Swan and Harry Monks, Veterans of the Second World War and members of Lakefield Royal Canadian Legion Branch 77, arranged to have the memorial moved to the Buckhorn Community Centre. Mel and Harry supervised the move and prepared the site. There is no record of the original dedication when it was first erected and no service was held prior to this time.

In 2018, the cenotaph was moved to its current location at the entrance to Sandy Lake Cemetery. Local aggregate operator, Buckhorn Sand & Gravel supplied a machine and operator to move the memorial on September 15, 1981. The Lakefield Legion members and members of Buckhorn area community, led by Rev. Gordon Porter, accorded the memorial full honours at a re-dedication ceremony on Sunday, November 8, 1981, at 12:00 noon.

The Canadian Forces Memorial was dedicated on September 28, 1974, to honour those serving and those who have served with the Canadian Forces.

The CF-100 first flew in January 1950 and was the first Canadian designed and built twin turbine engines interceptor aircraft. It was the 1946 brainchild of Edgar Atkin, Avro's Chief Engineer, and John Frost, a designer from de Havilland in England. For thirty years the Clunk, as it was known, served the Canadian Air Force. Belgium was the only other country to use CF-100s.
