This memorial was erected by Royal Canadian Legion Branch #55. It was dedicated on Sunday August 13th, 1995.

The Soldiers Memorial Monument in Tillsonburg, most commonly known as the cenotaph, was dedicated on Armistice Day, November 11, 1929. It was located in front of the Town Hall and was illuminated at night by the Public Utilities Commission. The memorial was unveiled one month before the end of Mayor Dr. R.E. Weston’s term and he called upon Mr. Theodore Young, whose son had been killed overseas, to unveil the monument representing the parents of the sons who gave their lives in the Great War.

Similar to the Cenotaph in Whitehall, England, the Tillsonburg Soldiers’ Memorial Monument was designed and constructed by George Hunter of Simcoe. Made of grey granite from Beebe, Quebec, it stands 19 feet in height, with the names of the battles in which the men of Tillsonburg fought engraved on it.

The memorial was eventually moved in front of the Tillsonburg Town Centre, which opened in 1980. On October 7, 2014, a special dedication ceremony organized by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 153 Tillsonburg Varnavair and the Tillsonburg Military History Club was held at the cenotaph to honour members of the International Security Force who served in Afghanistan. Sergeant Stephen Thomas MB, a member of the Queen’s Own Rifles, officially unveiled the Afghanistan memorial marker engraved on the cenotaph. Retired Master Corporal Kevin DeClark laid a memorial wreath bearing 158 poppies in honour of the 158 Canadian soldiers and civilians who had given their lives in Afghanistan.

In 2015, a memorial plaque with the names of those who served in the First and Second World Wars was added to the back of the monument. The plaque was donated by Flying Officer Jim Sergeant, Royal Canadian Air Force, Second World War, who passed away in November 2013.

Fundraising for the cenotaph involved the entire town. The Tillsonburg Lions Club spearheaded the organization of the fundraising effort and the building of the monument, with local clubs, businesses, and individuals all generously contributing to the monument.

The memorial's infamous inscription, found on many cenotaphs, are the prose of John Ceredigion-Jones' The Returning Man. John was a Welsh-Canadian poet who was a habitual writer of letters to the editor and composer of poetry.

The South Norwich War Memorial was unveiled and dedicated on Sunday October 9, 1932. The day’s events began at the Odd Fellows’ Hall, where a procession led by a honour guard from the First Battalion, Oxford Rifles, the St. Thomas Pipe Band of the Canadian Legion and the Norwich Boy’s Band made its way to the park for the formal unveiling. The memorial was designed and built by A.E. Moore of Otterville.

In December 1921, the Soldiers Memorial Monument was erected by Woodstock contractor Dan Miller. It stands about 14 feet from the ground. Originally, there was to be a memorial service with the unveiling of the monument a month early. However, the service was postponed indefinitely, when it was discovered there were deficiencies in the basement stone of the monument. The official dedication was held on June 21, 1922.

This memorial was dedicated in memory of the men from West Zorra and Embro who died in the First World War. Later names were added for those who died in the Second World War.

In October 1919, a meeting was held in the Town Hall to decide what to do for the local fallen heroes of the First World War. It was decided that a monument be erected and a committee was appointed to select the type and its location. The memorial is a traditional statue of a Great War soldier standing at ease and rests on top of a granite shaft.

The Drumbo Cenotaph was officially unveiled on May 23, 1922, by Mrs. John Gibson and Mrs. Kilgour, who both lost their sons during the First World War. Addresses were given by Colonel McMullen of Woodstock, as well as various other representatives, and musical performances were provided by local school children, Reverend Holley and Mrs. Rush of Tillsonburg.

Later the names of those who died in the Second World War were engraved and the Korean War acknowledged. The name of Emerson Crosby was added to the Drumbo Cenotaph in 2005.

In 1986, a new cenotaph was dedicated in front of the Beachville Legion Branch No. 495 to commemorate those that served in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. It is partly constructed from Oxford County fieldstone.

In 1946, a group of Brittania Boating Club members got together, pooled their money, and bought the property at Baskins’ Beach for $700, which they named the Britannia Boating Club Memorial Park for; “the express purpose of acquiring and developing a parcel of land as an up-river park in memory of those members of the Club who have fallen in the Empire’s Wars”.

The Brittania Boating Club Memorial Park features a Memorial Cairn and a flagpole. It was dedicated in 1949 in honour of the Yacht Club (then called the Britannia Boating Club) members who were killed overseas during the First and Second World Wars.

Centrepoint Park, was designated as Nepean's "Peace Park" as part of Canada's 125th Birthday in 1992.

"Peace Parks Across Canada" was conceived and organized by the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) in collaboration with "CANADA 125" and the National Capital Commission. As Canada celebrated its 125th Birthday, some 400 cities and towns across Canada dedicated a Park to Peace – with most parks dedicated at Noon local time, October 8th, as the National Peacekeeping Monument was being unveiled in Ottawa. The members of the winning design team included Cornelia H. Oberlander, landscape architect. Supporters included the Federation of Canadian Mayors and Municipalities, Canada Parks and Recreation Association, the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, Heritage Canada, World Wildlife Fund Canada, Friends of the Earth, Canadian Society of Landscape Architects, and local Rotary Clubs all across Canada. Project sponsors included VIA Rail, Greyhound Lines Canada, Ltd., CP Hotels and Resorts, Ramada International Hotels and Resorts, Four Seasons Ltd., Meridien Hotels, Concept 3 Advertising and Programmed Communications, Ltd.

Peace Parks Across Canada" has served as the foundation in launching the "IIPT Global Peace Parks Program" on the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, 2000

At noon on October 9th, 2007 – one day after the precise 15th Anniversary of the original dedications, and as Canada continues to be a beacon of peace, Tolerance, and Understanding in a world of increasing violence and distrust, and a nation that celebrates diversity, a nation-wide re-dedication was co-ordinated.

Each of the original Peace Parks incorporated a ‘Bosco Sacro’ (Peace Grove) of 12 trees as a symbolic link with one another, and with nature - and as a symbol of hope for the future. The 12 trees were also symbolic of Canada’s 10 Provinces and two Territories. As there are now three Territories, a 13th tree was planted as part of the "Re-dedication Ceremony."

Barry Helman Crescent is named in memory of Major William Barry Helman, CD. 

William Barry Helman was born on 1 December 1929. After completing his schooling, he joined the military and served in the Korean War. Following the cessation of hostilities and his return to Canada, Major Helman continued his military career and deployed on UN peacekeeping missions to Cyprus and the Gaza Strip. Upon retirement, he continued to serve the military community as President of the Ottawa chapter of the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping (CAVUNP) and in this capacity, lead the drive to raise funds for the Perley-Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre. He was also active in the Korea Veterans Association of Canada and the Royal Canadian Legion. Major William Barry Helman passed away on 27 January 2013, in Ottawa.
