This memorial was originally unveiled on 27 July 1994 at the old City Hall on Sussex Drive. It is dedicated to the memory of Canadians who enlisted in Ottawa for service with the Canadian Army Special Force and members of Canada's Regular Forces who made the supreme sacrifice during the Korean War, during training or as peacekeepers following the armistice that was signed on 23 July 1953.

The memorial is constructed from pink granite donated by the Government of the Republic of Korea. It was moved to its current location in Veterans' Grove in 1998. At this time the plaque contained 13 names, but should have displayed 21 names. A new plaque was unveiled and rededicated during Veterans Week 2003 at Ottawa City Hall Headquarters on Elgin Street.

The headstone from the First World War grave of Canada’s Unknown Soldier is a tangible reminder of the human cost of war. It was erected by the Imperial War Graves Commission in Cabaret Rouge Cemetery, France. Relocated at Memorial Hall, Canadian War Museum, Ottawa. Headstone CWM 20000044-011.

These plaques, once displayed at Eaton’s Toronto Stores, commemorate the company’s 578 employees killed while serving during the First and Second World Wars. A 1919 Eaton's publication noted that 3,327 Eaton's staff enlisted in the First World War. Copies of the plaques were also displayed at the company’s stores in Winnipeg (unveiled by Lady Eaton on November 26, 1923 in a ceremony including several distinguished guests) and Montreal.

The T. Eaton Company supported both war efforts by participating heavily in fundraising drives and, after each conflict, returning all profits made on government contracts. For its employees serving in uniform, Eaton’s also provided generous financial support and welfare assistance. Members of the Eaton family donated these plaques to the Canadian War Museum. Many communities created memorials to their fallen, often commissioning stained glass windows for their churches or public buildings. The Welcome Zion congregational church in Ottawa erected this window part of a group of three (the other two windows were not military related), in 1922. It commemorates eight fallen congregation members. This window came to the Canadian War Museum after the church closed in 1941.

This trophy is a small arms competition trophy in 33 Combat Engineer Regiment that remembers Officer Cadet W.J. Whitley of 3 Field Engineer Squadron. He was among a group of engineers killed in a demolitions training accident at Slesse Range on 20 June 1988.

His companions were Captain J.W. Best, Lieutenant M.D. Aucoin, Second Lieutenant K.J. Wilkinson, Officer Cadet K.R. Gawne, and Officer Cadet W.C. Sutton, who are remembered on the CFB Chilliwack Slesse Range Memorial in Oromocto.

On August 17, 1992, Sergeant C.M. Ralph was serving in Croatia with the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) and was killed when his vehicle struck a mine. His unit, 4 Combat Engineer Regiment, commissioned a locally made memorial stone of dark grey granite and dedicated it to his memory. The stone was the focal point for their 1992 Remembrance Day ceremony at the Canadian camp in Velika-Kladusa, Bosnia-Herzegovina. Subsequent Canadian soldiers killed in the former Yugoslavia were added and by 1995 the number of memorials stones grew to four; two inscribed with Canadian and United Nations crests with memorial text in both English and French, and two having the names of the fallen soldiers. The memorial became known as the Yugo Memorial Stones. 

In mid-1995, Canada agreed to provide a contingent for the newly formed NATO Implementation Force (IFOR), which became the NATO Stabilization Force (SFOR) on December 20, 1996. During this time the Memorial Stones were sent to the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, to ensure they were not lost, where they were placed on display in the museum’s Peacekeeping Gallery. In 1998, the museum added the names of six soldiers that had been killed since mid-1995 to the Memorial Stones.

In the fall of 1998, the soldiers in the NATO Stabilization Force requested the Memorial Stones be returned so they could build a formal memorial in one of their camps. The museum made the arrangements to return the stones to Yugoslavia for the duration of their mission in the Balkans. The memorial consisted of the four returned stones, an eleventh name was added to one of the stones, and included two additional stones that were locally made. One was a Bosnian cemetery marker style and the other listed the names of the five Canadian soldiers who were killed while serving in NATO Implementation Force/NATO Stabilization Force. A rededication ceremony was held on Remembrance Day 1998 at the Canadian Contingent's base in Velika Kladusa.

In 2005, the Memorial Stones arrived back at the Canadian War Museum where they are now stand alone items.

Major-General Eedson Louis Millard Burns, Commander of 2nd Division and 1 Canadian Corps during the Second World War and Commander of UNEF I, the first United Nations Peacekeeping Force is remembered. A classroom in the School of Military Mapping is named for Major-General Burns for his significant contributions to military mapping.

A classroom in the School of Military Mapping is named for Major-General William Beaumont Anderson, CMG, DSO, who became Army Quartermaster General during the First World War. Major-General Anderson is recognized for his significant contributions to military mapping.

A classroom in the School of Military Mapping in Ottawa is named for LCol C.H. Smith, the first Commanding Officer of the Army Survey Establishment. Second-Lieutenant Smith was commissioned in the 1st Field Survey Company (Militia) in 1937 and joined the company overseas in 1940. In 1943 he commanded 3 Field (Reproduction) Company and, later that year, became Deputy Assistant Director of Surveys, 1st Canadian Army. In December 1940 he was seconded to Royal Navy Headquarters, 21st Army Group, as Deputy Assistant Director of Surveys and held that position until the end of the war.

After the war he commanded 1st Field Survey Company, lead its transformation into the Army Survey Establishment and was Director of Military Survey in from 1946 to 1962. During these years the Army Survey Establishment mapped about one third of Canada and Col Smith became an international authority on surveying and mapping.

After retirement, Col Smith worked in private enterprise and with the United Nations to implement national mapping programs in Pakistan, Bolivia, the Sudan and Liberia Manila, Bolivia, and Iran. He was awarded the Massey Medal of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society in 1968 for his contribution to the improvements of mapping and charting techniques in Canada.

On October 18, 1996, a cairn was erected to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the formation of the Army Survey Establishment. The cairn bears an engraved plaque that also recognizes the unit’s significant contributions to Canada’s arctic mapping program, the support provided to the Canadian Forces at home and abroad, and the continued pursuit of excellence in defence geomatics.

This memorial consists of a cairn constructed of slabs of stone with a metal plaque at the top, and two small metal plaques at the bottom. One bears the 1946 badge of the Royal Canadian Engineers - the badge worn by members of the Army Survey Establishment at the time the unit was founded, and the other bears the 1996 badge of the Canadian Military Engineers - the badge worn by members of the Mapping and Charting Establishment at the time of the unit's 50th anniversary.
