The War Memorial Children's Hospital was established in 1917 at the South Street site at Old Vic. The Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire raised money to build the facility, which opened in 1922 with a total of 60 beds. The Children's War Memorial Hospital sat abandoned for a number of years.

The City of London announced in 2020 it will sell off 55 acres of the old South Street Victoria Medical Services hospital land. What remains of the now abandoned Victoria Health Services Building and the War Memorial Children's Hospital. They will be sold off to make way for a new residential neighbourhood.

A stained glass memorial window was erected in honour of Corporal Edwin Frederick Mantle at New Horizons Baptist Church featuring the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals crest at the top, a knight in armour with a dedication below. The inscription above on the banner "And all the trumpets sound for him on the other side" is taken from The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan. He was the son of Albert Frederick and Charlotte Alice Mantle, of London, Ontario, Canada. He died on active service at 38 and was buried in Port Glasgow Cemetery in Renfrewshire, United Kingdom Grave Reference: Sec. M. Row 2. Grave 50.

The Royal Canadian Corps of Signals is now perpetuated by the Communications and Electronics Branch of the Canadian Forces. The Latin motto "Velox Versutus Vigiland" which means "Swift, Skilled, Alert", was inherited from the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals.

Dignitaries from the City of London, 31 Canadian Brigade Group, Department of National Defense, The Royal Canadian Regiment Museum, Canada Company and the London Heritage Council all gathered, on November 9, 2018, to unveil a LAV III Monument, to honour the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) who served and sacrificed in Afghanistan, from 2001-2014.

Representing the Fallen CAF members was the family of London's very own Trooper Mark Wilson who was killed in October 2006 by an improvised explosive device while serving in Afghanistan.

Since its beginning, the City of London has always had a strong connection to the Canadian forces and defense industry. In 1923, Wolseley Barracks became headquarters for The Royal Canadian Regiment, and it is currently home to the 4th Battalion (4RCR), as well as, the Regional Cadet Organizations and the 1st Hussars. The City also has a unique connection with the creation of this symbolic monument. It is local companies who are responsible for building both the original LAV III used to protect our troops, as well as, all LAV III Monuments used to commemorate them.

The RCR Museum is the perfect location to preserve London’s stories about the conflict in Afghanistan. It is an accredited Canadian Forces Museum committed to providing a home for regimental history and fostering a deeper understanding of the Regimental experience during times of peacekeeping and war.

The history of a memorial at this site dates back to Easter Day, 1924, when the community of Manor and Highland Park erected a large oak cross in honor of those Canadians who died in "the war to end all wars." On May 31, 1925, more than 3,000 people assembled in the park to replace the cross with a marble statue of a First World War infantryman.

The 59-year-old marble statue was destroyed by vandals and the community rallied, raising about $20,000 in a few weeks, enough money to erect a bronze memorial to replace it. On November 2, 1985 a rededication for the memorial included a parade by active military and veterans' groups, an unveiling of the sculpture and a ceremony led by Rt. Reverend Derwyn Jones, bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Huron.

The bronze statue is a replica of an original memorial by Windsor sculptor Blaize Bezaire, recast from wax models. Two plaques have been added to the site in recollection of sacrifices made by soldiers in the Second World War and the Korean War.

(Note: Though a poppy does not appear on the street sign, this street is part of the City of London's "Streets of Honour" program and was named for Warrant Officer 2nd Class Baxter)

Baxter Street is named in memory of Warrant Officer 2nd Class Robert Leroy Baxter.

Robert Leroy Baxter was born on 1 May 1920 in London, ON. He attended Westminster School and Central Collegiate before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force. Upon completion of his training as a Wireless Operator – Air Gunner, he was assigned to No. 48 Squadron, RAF. During the Second World War, this squadron was mainly employed in a maritime role, conducting patrols or anti-shipping and anti-submarine missions. By December 1942, the squadron was patrolling the entrance to the Mediterranean flying Lockheed Hudsons from RAF Gibraltar. On 20 January 1944, Warrant Officer 2nd Class Baxter took off with his crew to conduct an anti-submarine patrol west of the Straits of Gibraltar. Their aircraft crashed into the sea and were initially reported missing. The following day, the crew was declared killed in action. With no known grave, Warrant Officer 2nd Class Robert Leroy Baxter is memorialized on the Malta War Memorial in Malta.
