In 1941, Canada dispatched 1,975 soldiers from across the country to Hong Kong to reinforce the city’s garrison against an impending attack by the Japanese Imperial Army. That attack took place on December 7, 1941, resulting in 290 Canadian deaths and 483 wounded. The survivors became Prisoners of War of a brutal and uncaring enemy.
