Société d`histoire 2004
The "Société d'Histoire de Weedon" erected this memorial unveiled on November 14, 2004. This Cenotaph is dedicated to the Veterans of Weedon, including St-Gérard and Fontainebleau. The monument was created by Laurier Poulin. The sculpture overhanging the monument is the work of Denis Beaucher. The sculpture means “End of the voyage.” Dark granite is a fitting medium for the sculpture, as it represents a soldier whose mission has ended. His helmet lies on a boulder, indicating that he died in combat.

This memorial was constructed in October 1958 in memory of the glorious men from Thetford Mines and surrounding areas who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. It is of classic design, made of Canadian granite, and consists of a tall plinth that carries a cross. The plinth rises to 140 inches and sits on a 127-inch base. It is flanked by twin colonnaded ramparts set in a grove of cedars. Inscribed are the dedications with the names and ranks of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. Remembrance Day Ceremonies are enhanced by the presence of Canadian Forces personnel from CFB Valcartier and the 775 Kiwanis Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets at Thetford Mines.
