Because I had a brother killed in the air, shot down over the Mediterranean, was a tail end of a, he was a gunner in the tail end of plane. They never found his body. Then my... it disrupted the rest of the house. My mother went to work, which she’d never done in her life before, so. Interviewer: Do you remember what your mother’s reaction was when you told her you had signed up? Yeah, “What did you have to do that for? Isn’t one gone enough?” Can pretty well hear her say that. Of course I, I went and did it before I told her.

Mrs. Wilson talks about why she joined the air force, she explains she joined up after her brother was lost by being shot down as a tall gunner.

Ethel Wilson

Ethel Wilson was born in 1915 in Ottawa, Ontario she joined the forces in 1943 after she lost her brother who was a tail gunner and was shot down never to be recovered. Her family was not happy with her joining the air force but she felt she should do it. She talks about why she joined and her parents reaction.
