A brand new wooly friend joined the Remembrance Clubhouse animals this year! Pax the sheep is from France. Pax is part of the flock that keeps the grass trimmed at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France. As you can imagine, Pax cares a lot about memorials.
Nine Canadian peacekeepers died on August 9, 1974. Their military plane was shot down during a mission in the Middle East. This sad event happened 50 years ago. Because of it, August 9 is now National Peacekeepers’ Day in Canada.
Code talkers
Some Indigenous soldiers used code during the Second World War. Charles and Peter Tomkins from Alberta used the Cree language to keep messages secret.
