So they gave their bodies to their country & received, each for his own memory, praise that will never die, and with it the grandest of all sepulchres. À leur pays, tous ont offert en commun leur vie charnelle. Chacun en particulier a reçu des louanges immortelles et la plus honorable sépulture: non pas tant celle où ils reposent, mais mieux encore ce monument impérissable que leur gloire leur assure dans le souvenir des hommes. Les hommes valeureux ont l'univers entier pour tombeau, même à l'étranger la mémoire de leur dévouement plus encore que celle de leurs exploits, demeure immortelle.
