Son of Laurence Arthur Cannon and Corinne Fitzpatrick. Husband of Helen Mary Wilkin of Islington, Ontario, a lieutenant nurse (Nursing Sister) at the 15th General Hospital Overseas in England during the Second World War. Brother of Captain Arthur F. Cannon, AMGOT, Italy, and Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Fitzpatrick Cannon, Royal 22e Régiment. The latter became commander of the Hull Regiment in 1946. Cousin of Captain Laurence (Louis) Cannon, Royal 22e Régiment, D Company, killed in action on 24 May 1944, during the assault near Melfa, Hitler Line, Italy, and of airman Broddy Cannon, Royal Canadian Air Force.

Accidentally shot in North Africa on 15 March 1943, he was evacuated to England on 2 May 1943, then returned to Canada. He returned to England on 15 June 1943. He took part in the Allied landings in Sicily on 10 July 1943. Seriously wounded in action on the 27th near Santa Maria, he was evacuated to Luqa, Malta, on the 30th and died at 19:05 hours on 1 August 1943 at St. Andrew's Hospital in Pembroke, Malta, where he is buried.

Location:

PEMBROKE MILITARY CEMETERY is located just off the north-east coastal road than runs from Msida through St. Andrews and to St. Paul's Bay, between St. Andrews and what was formerly St. Patrick's Barracks. It is approximately 2.5 kilometres away from St. Julian's Bay and about 8 kilometres away from St. Paul's Bay. The rear of the PEMBROKE MILITARY CEMETERY is clearly visible from this road. Once approaching St. Andrew's (high ridge) it is clearly sign posted. A bus service normally runs close to the cemetery from both Valletta and St. Paul's Bay.

  • Bank of Nova Scotia, WWII Honour Roll list– Mr. Cannon was remembered at the general meeting of the Bank of Nova Scotia on October 13, 1946.
